Arne Halvorsen (1929-2020)
Arne Halvorsen graduated from Statens Håndverks- og Kunstindustriskole in 1955. That same year he designed his first furniture classics in the H-series for Rasmus Solberg Møbelverksted and landed a job at Rastad & Relling design studio.
In 1960 he established his own office. Dining chair 9 (J.ren) won first prize that same year in the chair competition organised by the national Bransjer.det for møbel- og innredningsindustrien (the Industry Council for Furniture and Furnishing). Halvorsen’s dining chairs and sideboards were of exceptionally high quality and were produced by the firm L. Jacobsen. Meanwhile, P.I. Langlo produced several of Halvorsen’s extraordinary sculptural sofas and armchairs, including 2010-H. His most important accomplishment was the development of a new office furniture system for Nob.
Halvorsen has also played an important role as an exhibition architect.
