Runar Børresen (1912-1983)
Runar Børresen was a Norwegian rector, artist, and educational reformer who played a pivotal role in the evolution of art and applied arts education in Norway, particularly in the city of Bergen. Børresen is primarily remembered for his leadership at the Bergen School of Arts and Crafts (BKHS), which is now part of the Faculty of Fine Art, Music and Design at the University of Bergen.
While he pushed for modernization, his ideology was linked to Bauhaus ideals, aiming to educate designers who could integrate into the rational industrial production of functional and refined household objects. His life and work are documented in publications on the history of art education in Norway, such as Bergens kunsthåndverksskole etter 50-årsjubileet 1959-1977.
